Living in PNG

Ukarumpa is, by western standards, a small town located in the eastern highlands of Papua New Guinea.  Ukarumpa is the main centre for most of Papua New Guinea's Bible translation work.  It has a population of 800-1000 people, primarily missionaries who have come as translators or support personnel.

Where is Ukarumpa?

Ukarumpa is situated at an elevation of 5,100 feet above sea level.  Although it is very near the equator, the effect of the high altitude is year-round pleasant temperatures and few mosquitoes.  It is usually difficult to imagine one is in the tropics in Ukarumpa.

Is there any wonder why PNG is called Paradise?
